“For some time I have been questioning what it really means for a woman to live on her own terms, and how love, desire, responsibility, restraint, and contradiction can exist within one individual.
APPETITE is one chapter of that search. It begins with desire not as provocation, but as instinct: something human that exists before we learn how much of ourselves should be revealed, restrained, or explained.
The film imagines the world surrounding these clothes, a little stranger and a little more alive; a place where contradiction does not need to be resolved in order to belong.
Giving that inner experience a physical form began in my father's sculptural studio. I grew up watching material resist and then settle into form. That is still how I approach a garment. I want the hand to remain visible in it. Making clothes is how I keep that search going, and how others might find something of their own in it.”
